Why should I volunteer?
Volunteering with Ironman is an opportunity to experience the atmosphere of a major sporting event without doing the swim, bike or run. It can be a great way to meet new people, enjoy the fun and camaraderie of the event team or build knowledge of event organisation and planning. The personal satisfaction from helping athletes achieving a challenging fitness goal such as Ironman can be very rewarding indeed.
What roles are available for volunteers?
Tasks are straightforward but important such as directing athletes on the course, working on the athlete helpdesk, refreshing the athletes at aid stations, manning course crossing points etc. Full support is given by a team of section Team Leaders and event officials.
What benefits do volunteers receive?
Volunteers will receive a commemorative crew t-shirt and food and drink to keep them energised as well as huge thanks from the athletes for making the race possible.
Will I be guaranteed the volunteering area I request?
The size of our event crews at Ironman are very large. Unfortunately we cannot always place you in your requested area due to logistics or other reasons. However we will do our best to place you in your preferred area of the race.
What happens once I sign up online?
Immediately after signing up you will get an automatic confirmation email. Soon after this we will add you to our volunteer crew list for the event and send you more information by email about what will happen leading up to race weekend. We may then occasionally contact you with interesting race news.
Do volunteers have to be a minimum age?
Volunteers need to be at least 16yrs of age.
What happens if I sign up and then cannot make it on the day?
Please just let us know as soon as possible so we can replace you with someone else and update our plans.
