Location
Located in beautiful Pembrokeshire Wales, Ironman Wales takes place on Sunday, September 8th 2013. Pembrokeshire is known for the breathtaking landscape of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, featuring miles of sandy beaches and a spectacular coastline. Ironman Wales is one not to be missed! The swim will be held on the North Beach. Transition is in the Rectory Car Park, with the finish on the Esplanade overlooking the South Beach.

Swim, 2.4 miles

Run, 26.2 miles

What are the cut off times?
Swim, 2 hours 20 minutes
Bike, 10 hours 30 minutes (after start of race)
Run, 17 hours (after start of race)

What is the expected temperature?
Pembrokeshire has a fantastic climate which benefits from the warm Gulf Stream. Tenby is one of the sunniest places in Britain with over 1,800 hours of sunshine a year. Temperatures across Wales usually make it to 15-20°C in September when the sandy, white beaches really come into their own. The water temperature in September is normally between 15-16C.

How much is it to enter?
The standard entry fee is £375 plus a 5% Active Administration Fee until March 9th 2013 when the Late Entry Fee applies of £415 plus the Active Fee.

You can also enter via our official charities who may offer a reduced entry fee in return for fundraising.

How do I enter?
Entries are open to any individuals who wish to participate in one of the world’s great sporting challenges.  Entries are taken online with payment by debit or credit card.  No other payment option is available.

Capacity is limited, mande up of standard entries and guaranteeed places allocated to our event partners.  Once standard entries close, our event partners may still be able to offer places in the event.  You may also wish to consider entering on behalf of our official charities who provide access to event places in return for fundraising on their behalf.  See the Charity page for details.

Once the entry process is completed and payment processed, you will receive a confirmation email which details your race entry.  If you do not receive this please check your junk mail. If you need your confirmation resent please email us Wales@Ironman.com

Withdrawal Process
You can withdraw from the race at any time by following the withdrawal instructions on the FAQ section.
Cancellation notices received:
Until 8th May, 2013: 50% refund
Until 8th July, 2013: 25% refund
After 8th July, 2013: no refunds will be given. This policy is not dependant on circumstances and is final.
It is not possible to defer your entry to another year or another athlete. The 5% Active fee is non-refundable.

Athletes will have the opportunity to transfer their race entry to another race, subject to certain conditions and the payment of the administration fee.

Race transfers may be possible up until 8th July 2013, the Race Transfer Policy in place at the time of the transfer request will apply.  To withdraw or transfer please visit Withdrawal

Will there be a relay entry?
No. Ironman Wales will not have a relay race.

What age group am I in?
You will compete as the age you will be on 31st December 2013

Is there a minimum age?
Yes, athletes must be 18 on race day

Can I use a hybrid/mountain bike?
No, your bike must be a road bike or a time trial bike, if you have further questions about this please email us with your bike make and a photo and we will be able to help you

Is there a waiting list for the event once entries sell out?
No, we do not have a waiting list

Registration procedure
All athletes must register in person by the specified time on Saturday and provide photo ID to verify their identity before collecting their race pack. Nothing gets sent in the post. Please check the race week schedule for registration opening times. There can be no late registration.

Can someone else register and rack my belongings for me?
No, the athlete racing must register and rack their own bike/bags. Photo ID will be requested in registration.

Transition quick facts

  • Ironman Wales operates a clean transition. No equipment can be placed on the floor, in a box or otherwise around your bike. You will be given coloured bags when you register for your bike and run gear.
  •      Blue Bag: Bike Gear, put all the kit you need for your cycle in this bag, including your helmet. (Don’t forget your race number) You will enter the blue bag area upon exiting the swim, here you will change and then head to collect your bike.
  •       Red Bag: Run Gear, put all the kit you need for your run in this bag. Once you have left your bike you will enter the red bag area, here you will change and head to the run course.
  •       White Bag: this bag is for the clothing that you require after the race. The white bags will be in the athletes village and available to collect as soon as you finish the race.
  • Bikes must be racked on Saturday 7th September. Please see the race week schedule for times.

Can my friends/family/spectator run down the finish line with me?
No, due to safety, spectators will not be allowed to run down the finish line.  This area must be kept clear. Any athlete who crosses the finish line with a spectator will be disqualified.

How many qualifying slots are there?

50, for the Ironman World Championships 2014.

How do I claim my slot?
Slots are allocated to each age group with an athlete in, final slot allocation will be determined on race day based on the number of official starters. Roll down will begin; athletes must be at roll down to accept their slot, if an athlete chooses not to take the slot by not being present at roll down, the slot will get rolled down to the next finisher in that age group present at the roll down. If there are no finishers in an age group this slot will then get allocated to the biggest age group in that gender.
